Born in 1967, I took up photography in 1999. The majority of my pictures are taken spontaneously, as reflex reactions to a moment of sheer amazement. Other pictures are much longer in the making: I begin with an idea for a picture, I then develop it further (in my head), take away some elements and put them together in a different way until an appropriate time when the light is just 'right' and a press of the shutter completes the whole process of creating the photo - and the light leaves its trace in the form of minute silver crystals on the film... Well, since I mainly use digital cameras since quite a while, this last clause doesn't apply any more strictly to my photography. However, this reminiscence to the "good old days" of analog photography still shines through in the URL of my homepage ("silberspur" translates to "traces of silver").
The thing that capitivates me most about photography is the tension that arises between the force of change and the desire to freeze time and record the moment on film; between anxious curiosity and patient waiting; between observation, anticipation of the situation, and the surprise when it all comes out quite differently; between the role of the distance observer and total immersion in events.
This website contains a selection of my photos divided into the two sections:
Gallery and Projects. I hope you enjoy looking at the
photos and hope also that the amazement that I felt when the photos were taken is still visible...
